The Shyvers Multiphone was the Spotify of its day. Each unit had speakers and a telephone built in. You would put in a nickel at at the top, push a button to call a central operator bank, you would tell the operator the number of the song you wanted, and they would play it in turn. All over a phone line. There were no records in each establishment to replace constantly, just updated lists sent to insert into each unit. The records were in a central library/switchboard in Seattle. This one appears to be from around 1954. They were in service from 1939 to 1959.
